Es gibt sog. Additionstheoreme für die Winkelfunktionen:$$\sin(x\pm y)=\sin x\cos y\pm\cos x\sin y$$$$\cos(x\pm y)=\cos x\cos y\mp\sin x\sin y$$Wenn nun \(x=y\) ist, folgt aus dem Additionstheorem für den Cosinus:$$\cos(2x)=\cos(x+x)=\cos x\cdot\cos x-\sin x\cdot\sin x=\cos^2x-\sin^2x$$
