Sei A die gegebene Matrix.

Bestimme zunächst das charakteristische Polynom Χ ( λ ) von A:

$$X (\lambda )=det(A-\lambda E)=\left| \begin{matrix} 2-\lambda  & 0 & -1 & 0 \\ 0 & 1-\lambda  & 8 & 0 \\ 1 & 0 & -\lambda  & 0 \\ 3 & -5 & 1 & -2-\lambda  \end{matrix} \right|$$

Dieses lautet:

$$X (\lambda )=\lambda ^{ 4 }-\lambda ^{ 3 }-3\lambda ^{ 2 }+5\lambda -2$$

Die Nullstellen dieses Polynoms sind die Eigenwerte von A. Dies sind: { - 2, 1, 1, 1 }

Der größte Eigenwert ist also λ1=1 (Vielfachheit 3).

Der Eigenvektor zum Eigenwert λ1=1 ist: ( 0 | -3 | 0 | 5 ).
Man erhält ihn, indem man das Gleichungssystem:

$$(A-{ \lambda  }_{ 1 }E)*x=0$$$$\Leftrightarrow \left( \begin{matrix} 2-{ \lambda  }_{ 1 } & 0 & -1 & 0 \\ 0 & 1-{ \lambda  }_{ 1 } & 8 & 0 \\ 1 & 0 & { \lambda  }_{ 1 } & 0 \\ 3 & -5 & 1 & -2-{ \lambda  }_{ 1 } \end{matrix} \right) *\left( \begin{matrix} { x }_{ 1 } \\ { x }_{ 2 } \\ { x }_{ 3 } \\ { x }_{ 4 } \end{matrix} \right) =\left( \begin{matrix} 0 \\ 0 \\ 0 \\ 0 \end{matrix} \right)$$$$\Leftrightarrow \left( \begin{matrix} 1 & 0 & -1 & 0 \\ 0 & 0 & 8 & 0 \\ 1 & 0 & 1 & 0 \\ 3 & -5 & 1 & -3 \end{matrix} \right) *\left( \begin{matrix} { x }_{ 1 } \\ { x }_{ 2 } \\ { x }_{ 3 } \\ { x }_{ 4 } \end{matrix} \right) =\left( \begin{matrix} 0 \\ 0 \\ 0 \\ 0 \end{matrix} \right)$$

löst.
